# Organization Types

<mark style="color:$primary;">Select the organization type(s) that apply to your organization and best describe your legal structure.</mark>

<mark style="color:$primary;">**Choose your organization type based on legal status:**</mark>

* **Nonprofit:** You're a registered 501(c)(3), charity, NGO, or equivalent
* **Community group:** Informal collective without nonprofit status (you'll need a [host partner](/resources-for-land-stewards/about-host-partners.md))
* **Cooperative:** Registered cooperative or worker-owned organization
* **Indigenous group:** <mark style="color:$primary;">Indigenous land council, territory, or community</mark>
* **Business:** For-profit entity with standard commercial operations
* **Other:** Only select if none of the above fit

### When should I select "nonprofit" as my organization type?

Select the category that accurately describes your legal structure.

<mark style="color:$primary;">**Select "nonprofit" if one or more of the following apply:**</mark>

* You're a registered 501(c)(3), charity, NGO, or equivalent
* You have official nonprofit status in your country
* You can usually receive tax-deductible donations in your country

**Don't select "nonprofit" if:**

* You're a community group without nonprofit status (choose "Community group" and work with a [host partner](/resources-for-land-stewards/about-host-partners.md))
* You're a cooperative (choose "Cooperative")

#### Why it matters:

Accurate categorization helps supporters understand your structure, helps us provide the right support and keeps us legally compliant, which allows us to continue running funding rounds and amplifying projects like yours.
